Copyright and your Journal article
As a basic principle, the copyright in any material created by an academic researcher employed by the University of Bristol will normally belong to the University (see General terms and conditions of employment for all staff). However, there can be mitigating factors which mean this is not the case e.g. terms of research funding or formal collaboration agreements with industrial partners.
If you feel confident that your research involves no such mitigating factors, the University permits academic staff to grant copyright permissions relating to their own research outputs and research data to 3rd parties, usually an academic publisher.
