Creating a Data Management Plan

2016/11/09 @ 14:00 - 15:30

Data management plans are now expected by most major funders, and usually as part of the application process. Also known as data sharing plans or technical plans, these documents are expected to demonstrate how a project will organise, document and ultimately share their research data. Using the DMPonline tool, this practical hands-on workshop will cover:

  • What a data management plan (DMP) is and its benefits
  • What funders expect from a DMP
  • What DMPs cover
  • A walkthrough of the online data management planning tool, DMPonline
  • An opportunity to draft your own DMP using DMPonline, with Research Data Service staff on hand to assist

Attendees are encouraged to bring information on their own proposed or existing project in order to write a DMP relevant to their work. Sample scenarios will also be available. The workshop is aimed at both research staff and postgraduate students who are required to write a DMP by their funder or who wish to learn more about the process in order to improve their own data management.

Prerequisite: Attendees should complete the Research Data Bootcamp short online tutorial prior to the workshop. This will provide an introduction to research data management that will then be developed during the session.
